Nutrition Coach Amanda Jeffrey Credits CBG Method as Being a Game Changer for Her Clients (And Herself)

Two years ago, Amanda Jeffrey was working full-time at a hospital and knew it wasn’t for her.

“I was there eight hours a day. I have never been a 9-5 girl. I had always had a flexible schedule, so being locked down for eight hours in a hospital was basically my nightmare,” Jeffrey said.

Jeffrey was more interested in becoming a nutrition coach, so she started taking nutrition coaching courses on the side, and building her own book of nutrition clients.

At the time, Jeffrey was all about macro counting, because it’s all she knew.

But something told her there was another way.

“I was really interested in not tracking macros. I come from a bodybuilding background so I was a little bit messed up with body dysmorphia and my relationship with food wasn’t great,” admitted Jeffrey, who lives in Lethbridge, Alberta and also coaches part-time.

Ultimately, she “wanted to find a good balance of being able to eat for performance” without coaching her clients to track their macros.

Then she came across CBG in January, 2023 . They were hiring, and she decided to apply.

What happened next transformed her entire life.

Jeffrey was hired, and as she went through CBG’s training, she started to see a new way of doing things, not only for herself, but for her nutrition clients.

She learned about CBG’s “blueprint” approach, which provides nutritional guidance without being so restrictive as macro counting. Instead of just laying out specific numbers people have to hit each day, the focus is on educating clients about food and food portions, so they can then learn to eat more intuitively.

In theory, the approach made sense, but Jeffrey admits she was hesitant at first.

Two Years Later

Jeffrey has abandoned macro tracking, both personally and with her nutrition clients, and the results speak for themselves.

“My relationship with food has blossomed so much. I had a really hard training session over the weekend with the Wodapalooza qualifier, so I had a massive bowl of pasta and meat sauce last night, because I was like, ‘I just need some carbs to help recovery right now’…I just look at food as fuel now and I’m not fearful of having anything,” she said.

“I eat five meals a day and still enjoy some snacks in the evening and I’m the leanest and fittest I have ever been. I eat if I’m hungry and if I’m full, I stop eating. I don’t really binge anymore, and I have just a really good understanding of what my body needs, and that’s what I want to teach people.”

Jeffrey added: “If you’re patient with it, you will have such a good relationship in the future with yourself, your food, your body image, and your performance in the gym.”

This is the approach Jeffrey is taking with her 55 nutrition clients today, some of whom are lifestyle athletes, others weight loss clients, and others still are Semifinals and Games athletes. Her book of elite athletes include Ellie Turner, Rebecca Vitteson, Hattie Kanyo, Hannah Black and Annika Greer.

And the fact that she doesn’t have to work 9-5 anymore is also helping her be better at her job, Jeffrey explained, because she now has all the flexibility in the world. This enhances her ability to take care of herself, so that she can take care of her clients as effectively as possible.

“I love being remote and having my own schedule and being able to build my schedule based on my life… I love having conversations with my clients one-on-one and having those FaceTime touches, and the wins people share with me are incredible…And it’s not always necessarily nutrition wins,” she said.

Best of all, being a nutrition coach never gets boring, as it’s diverse and there’s always something new to explore.

Nutrition coaching is a whole umbrella of things: mindset and sleep and recovery and performance and food. There’s a lot that goes into it,” said Jeffrey who is currently taking a perimenopause and menopause course.

“I’m always trying to learn more. I’m constantly learning from other coaches and learning from other courses. You can always widen your education on being able to help people even more,” she said.
